MouldMaster
- non-toxic
mould solution
Like WebMaster,
MouldMaster is made
from natural vinegar and essential oils. The difference is in
the
oils used.
Vinegar
as we have seen, has been
used as a cleansing agent for many centuries.
Applied
to moulds and fungi, vinegar overfeeds the acid-loving mature
mould cells and kills them.
The essential oils
in MouldMaster
include Eucalyptus,
Lavender, Rosemary, Orange, Clove, Cinnamon and Origanum.
All of these have been shown in both field and laboratory conditions to
attack moulds
of various kinds. But the most effective over a range of
toxic
moulds are the last three - clove, cinnamon and origanum. The
oils are listed in percentage order (i.e. the highest percentage oils
first). Cinnamon, Clove and Origanum, although used in such
small
amounts, have the most powerful effect, while the other oils are
synergistic with them.
In
the box to the right is a list of
some of the organisms
this
product may destroy. You may recognise some of them as very
dangerous indeed. Medical science is discovering a
multitude
of health problems attributable to toxic moulds in the home, and in wet
tropical regions such as North Queensland, where I live, this is a
constant problem. Bleach does not do a good enough job and it
smells terrible - not to mention the toxic effects of the bleach
itself.
First Test of MouldMaster
After I formulated MouldMaster I needed some mould to test it on.
I had a soft vinyl sewing machine cover that had gone mouldy
years ago and I had never been able to successfully remove all the
mould and the stains it left under the surface of the vinyl.
Each
wet season this cover would again be covered in mould. I
sprayed
MouldMaster onto one side of the cover and let it sit for a few seconds
before wiping it off with a cloth. I was amazed to see not
only
the mould, but the deep stains, lift as I wiped. On the
second
side, I applied the MouldMaster and left it overnight. Then I
re-wet it with a light spray and wiped it off. Even better
results! The mould has not returned, and the results on the
bathroom ceiling have been similar.
Here's
how it works:
The vinegar destroys the
mature mould cells. The essential oils attack and kill the
mould
spores. The spores are the cause of most of the deep staining
as
well as the reason the mould reforms as soon as there is some moisture
in the air. So destroying them is very important.
Bleach
will not do this.
To Use:
MouldMaster can be sprayed onto mouldy areas and either wiped off
or left in place if desired.
(You can wipe if off if you like, to remove the mould, and
respray it lightly as a preventative). The spicy smell is
quite
strong and may trouble those with asthma, but it dissipates fairly
quickly, leaving only a faint spicy fragrance. The spice oils are
stimulating, so avoid using it in sleeping areas just before bedtime.
Because
MouldMaster is likely to be used in rooms such as bathrooms and
kitchens, particular care should be taken to ventilate the room well,
and test the surface before spraying. The vinegar may damage
marble surfaces, particularly if left in place.
